Does my crane require Cal/OSHA certification?

California requires certification by a licensed certifying agency for covered cranes and derricks exceeding the applicable 3-ton rated-capacity threshold. Call with the make, model, rated capacity and what work the unit performs if you are unsure.

How often is certification required?

Cranes have annual certification inspections, with a quadrennial inspection with required load testing every four years.

Question 3

What is the difference between annual and quadrennial?

Accepted Answer

The quadrennial is the more extensive four-year certification event and includes the required load testing. Annual certification inspections occur between quadrennials.

Question 4

My service-truck crane is under 3 tons. Can you still inspect it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. An insurance carrier, customer, general contractor or jobsite may require an independent professional third-party inspection even if the unit does not otherwise require Cal/OSHA crane certification.

Do you come to our yard or jobsite?

Yes. Inspections are performed onsite throughout Northern California.

Do you charge travel?

Do you handle fleets?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Multiple cranes or crane-equipped service trucks can be scheduled together to reduce downtime and simplify inspection planning.
